Hearst San Simeon State Park Camping
There are two campgrounds in the state park - San Simeon Creek Campground and Washburn Primitive Campground. Together they offer 134 campsites for tents or RVs, along with 2 hike and bike sites.
San Simeon Creek Vs. Washburn Primitive
San Simeon Creek Campground has coin or token operated showers, flush toilets, and is within easy walking distance of the beach. Washburn Primitive campsites are nearly a mile from the beach, have chemical toilets, and no showers.
San Simeon Creek tends to be noisier, especially with highway traffic nearby. It has more trees. Washburn Primitive is quieter, but has less shade. Located on a hill top, Washburn has nice views.

Campground Regulations
- Do not attach ropes or line to plants, fences, or park structures.
- Tents and other equipment must be confined to assigned camping space.
- Vehicles must remain on pavement within campsite limit
- Up to 3 vehicles allowed at San Simeon Creek Campground, 2 at Washburn. Pay for extra vehicles at Kiosk
- Dogs on leash in campsite, in vehicle or tent at night, not allowed on trails or beach
Campground Programs
In the past, campfire programs are presented on Friday and Saturday nights at the amphitheater next to the San Simeon Creek Campground. The programs usually began at 8:15 PM and last about one hour. Whether these will continue after concerns about COVID have abated, is unknown.
A campfire program schedule is posted on the campground bulletin board. In the past programs have covered topics such as Chumash Indians, the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and marine animals such as sea otters, elephant seals, and tide pool inhabitants.
Movie Night
Nature movies are shown on Sunday and Thursday evenings at 8:15 PM at the amphitheater. The movies usually run about one hour.
Morro Bay State Park Camping
Morro Bay State Park campground is located close to Morro Bay, next to the marina and the Morro Bay Golf Course. The campground has a wide variety of sites for tents and RVs up to 25 feet or 35 feet. There are also several accessible campsites and Hike & Bike campsites. Picnickers may use the picnic areas of the campground.
